Team Malaysia has confirmed its participation in the FIA Motorsport Games later this month, with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) confirming entries into three (3) disciplines at the event to be held in Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, Spain.
Malaysia is set to showcase its racing prowess in the upcoming GT Championship, with a talented lineup of drivers representing the nation across multiple categories. In the GT Sprint Category, Jazeman Jaafar will take the wheel, bringing his wealth of experience and skill to the track. Competing in the GT category are Weiron Tan and Selim Rafique, both ready to make their mark as they pilot the powerful Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Our Malaysian GT drivers will be backed by the highly experienced Taxshield Arrows Racing Team, known for their exceptional support and technical expertise. The GT Category features a unique format, with each nation fielding two drivers graded Silver and Bronze. In contrast, the GT Sprint Category highlights the prowess of a single Gold-rated driver per car, intensifying the competition.
In the Esports category, Naquib Nor Azlan and Nabil Nor Azlan will represent Malaysia, showcasing their virtual racing talents in Esports. Having trained under Alex Yoong, the brothers will race individually in two separate categories. Naquib, who makes a return to the competition, is hoping to improve his performance in the Esports GT category with a medal for Malaysia while his younger sibling, Nabil, will make his debut at the FIA Motorsport Games in the Esports F4 category.
With the spirit of teamwork and determination, Malaysia’s drivers are prepared to compete fiercely and aim for podium finishes. Stay tuned for updates as they embark on this exciting racing journey!
“We are very proud and excited to be sending homegrown drivers to what is considered the Olympics of Motorsports. I believe the five (5) Malaysian drivers have what it takes to compete with the best in the world, and the Motorsport Games is the perfect opportunity to showcase up and coming motorsport talent from Southeast Asia.” said Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, President for the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM).
This is the third time Malaysia will compete at the FIA Motorsports Games. At the inaugural event in 2019, Team Malaysia, represented by 2019 eRacing GP winner Mior Muhamad Hafiz, finished 8th in the Digital Cup. In 2022, Naquib Azlan outshone competitors from over 60 nations, qualifying as a finalist in the Esports Cup.
The FIA Motorsport Games is a unique multidisciplinary event that sees drivers competing in the colours of their national flag. The third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games will take place from 23-27 October 2024 in Spain, with the Generalitat Valenciana and Circuit Ricardo Tormo set to host the popular multidisciplinary event that unites athletes from all four corners of the globe in a unique spirit of sporting competition.
The third running of the Games – jointly launched by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and SRO Motorsports Group – promises to be the biggest yet. Not only are all 16 categories that made up the 2022 event confirmed to return, but they will be joined by ten new ones, increasing opportunities for drivers from National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) worldwide to vie for medals under the flag of their home country.
The torch now passes to Spain as the category count increases again to 26, spanning the full spectrum of the sport from Circuit Racing to Electric Street – that includes Auto Slalom and Karting Slalom – Karting, Esports, Off-road, and Rally.
The original founding categories of the FIA Motorsport Games – GT, GT Sprint, Touring Car, Formula 4, Drift, and Esports – continue to feature prominently, alongside a new medal opportunity in Esports Rally.
