Sepang, 13 November 2024 – The Malaysia
Speed Festival (MSF) has officially concluded its 2024 season, marking the end
of a year filled with excitement, competition, and growth. As one of Malaysia's
premier motorsport series, MSF has become a key platform for local racers and fans
alike, offering thrilling action and an accessible gateway to national-level
motorsport.
The 2024 season
began in March with a bang, featuring six rounds of car racing in the MSF
Superturismo series and five rounds of high-octane superbike action in MSF Superbikes.
MSF also continued its reputation for bold moves, introducing new categories
and innovative events that excited both competitors and fans.
Among the highlights were the debut of the Supersports category for superbikes
(for 600cc to 800cc sports bikes) and the feature of the Myvi Cup Preview
within the car racing division, a look ahead at the highly anticipated 2025
season, where the popular Myvi models, from its first generation to the latest
iteration, will take centre stage.
"We've had an
amazing year in 2024," said Adian Yein, Principal of MSF and an avid
motorsport enthusiast. "We've pushed the envelope with new categories,
added more excitement with endurance races, and reconnected with our roots
through the Saturday Night Fever revival. A special mention goes to our
collaboration with PETRONAS Primax for the Merdeka round, which saw the
introduction of 99-lap endurance races for cars and 12-lap endurance races for
superbikes – a first in MSF's history."
“By having title
sponsors such as PETRONAS Primax, we are able to expand our ideas and push
boundaries in the Malaysian racing scene, having local race teams in our
championship series to think outside of the box, and bring excitement to the
spectators and supporters of MSF as well. Racing isn’t about just going fast,
but it’s how you strategise all the factors that come into play in order to win
the championship,” added Yein.
As a fitting
conclusion to the 2024 season, MSF offered a special track day for both amateur
and professional racers the day before the final round. With participation fees
as low as RM250, the track day provided an opportunity for race teams and the
public to test their machines, offering a taste of the exhilarating atmosphere
that defines MSF events.
In the superbike division,
new champions emerged, including Zhafir Zarkasha, who clinched back-to-back
victories in the newly introduced Supersport category. The final round also
witnessed the return of legendary riders such as Azlan Shah, former Moto2 and
ARRC competitor, and superstar brothers, Adam and Ibrahim Norrodin, who added
further prestige to the event in the All Stars category, clocking an average of
2 minutes and 12 seconds.
As MSF bids
farewell to the 2024 season, it looks forward to an even more thrilling 2025 campaign.
Next season, the championship will feature 16 categories for MSF Superturismo,
bringing a whole new meaning to accessible, affordable, and thrilling
motorsport for racers at all levels. Whether you're a grassroots racer or a
seasoned professional, MSF continues to provide a platform for motorsport
enthusiasts to push their limits and showcase their talent.
"We're
incredibly proud of the growth MSF has achieved," said Yein. "2025 is
going to be focused on stability with even more opportunities for both amateur
and professional racers. MSF remains committed to making motorsport in Malaysia
more accessible, exciting, and affordable for everyone."
The 2024 season may
have come to a close, but the momentum is already building for next year, as
MSF continues to fuel the passion for motorsport in Malaysia and beyond.
